Selling Cars?

•September 15, 2009 • 2 Comments

Ok, I guess its strange to see , but the truth is that my family has grown to the extent that working forty hours a week, even at a decent job, just doesn’t pay the bills. So after much prayer and consideration it’s back to car sales. Yeah, you heard me, a pastor who sells cars. Talk about a mission field though. One thing I like about sales people at car dealerships is that they are very transparent with each other and will talk about Jesus even if they think they are going to hell.

Anyway, pray for me, that I would be sucessful in making money and communicating the Good News of Jesus

All Things in Moderation???

•August 18, 2009 • 3 Comments

Here we go folks.  I know that the one or two of you who occasionally stop by may actually pass out after seeing me post for the first time since March 9….WOW, but here’s my little nugget for today (for what its worth.)  I assume youv’e heard the adage “all things in moderation,”  particularly when referring to things like drinking, smoking, eating, etc.  I was sort of cogitating on this today and realized that in a great many cases this is a wise saying, but not always.

I think that some might appropriately apply this to the emotions that we experience as humans.  You know, we ought to control our emotions.  ”You shouldn’t get carried away by your emotions.”  I can think of a great many situations in life where this is wise.  I think about a young couple dating and being filled with all sorts of hormones and emotions that ought to be very wisely controlled for the sake of purity.  I think of the guy whose child was harmed by someone controlling his anger so he doesn’t do something like murder someone.  The number of situations like this are almost infinite, but I also can think of one situation where reserve and temperance are not the order of the day.

When we come before God he doesn’t seek our temperance.  In fact, he seeks our passion.  The perfections of who God is and what he does on our behalf ought to provoke the deepest sort of desires in our hearts.  God’s grace, mercy, and patience should so move the sinner that he can’t help but be consumed by praise.  Honestly, is there any valid argument for treasuring something so much that you don’t talk about it?  On the contrary,  men and women will overflow with praise, adoration, joy, sadness, and many other affections because of their treasure.  Jesus is the greatest treasure ever known to man.  Is there any tenable reason why we should not be moved emotionally because of him.  Our problem is not that we get to emotional about our faith, but that we are content to temper it with weak responses to the greatest being in all the universe.

Hmm, just thinkin

Don’t give up on me…please…

I have been so busy lately with things at church and with work hours picking up. For those who don’t know my regular daily job is being a pool dude.  Not generally the clean your pool with his shirt off pool dude, but the “oh no my pool is draining because something is broken” pool dude.  Anyway, here in Bama things start ramping up a little sooner than in Ken-Tuck where we used to live (thankfully.)  So as we are starting to rock and roll a little I have been rather lacs in posting.

Our little church is doing pretty well.  We have had some great visitors lately and it looks like we are adding a couple of families to the mix.  I plan on doing better with this blog thing.  I know you’ve heard it before, but hey I’m still actually doing this after over a year that is more than I ever thought I would do.  Hang in there and keep reading and you may get something worth the price you pay to read this blog!

Its free!  You get what you pay for:)

Whew…. Almost did it again!!

This waiting a month between posts.  Thankfully, I beat the 30 day drought.  I know only by 4 days, but hey what the heck.  Its been pretty busy around here with studying, praise band practice, family time, work, community group, and all the other things that life throws at me.

Our church is really changing, I think for the good.  The thing about planting a new church is that it tends not to look anything like you thought it would once you get going.  Not to mention that even a new church has to be reformed and always reforming.  My wife and I along with one of the other elders and his wife are really trying to make it to a church planting conference on the 8th of March, but the financial expenditure ($3000) is proving to be a real challenge.  If we make it there it will be a small miracle (is there any such thing as SMALL miracle).

Were hoping that the training will spur us forward to another era in our work.  We have been blessed recently with some new additions as well as the aforementioned children who were converted.  I hope you will pray for us.

Later (not so much next time)

God is Moving!

I am one of the Pastors/elders of a Seven Springs Church
and it appears that God is moving in the lives of several of the children in our church.  Over the past month or so God has saved 5 of our kids 2 of which are my own sons, two of which are the children of one of our leading men in the church, and one is the daughter of another one of our men.  All three families are celebrating this great gift of God.  These children have been taught the gospel from birth, and we are so excited that God has revealed Himself to these young ones.

The great gift is also a grand responsibility for us.  God has made us not only biological parents, but spiritual parents.  The greatest responsibility is yet ahead of us as we take on the task as disciplers of these new born Christians.  I know I speak for all of the parents when I say that we want more than anything to raise them in Jesus;  to love Him, serve Him, worship Him, and find Him as the most valuable treasure to ever be had.

I look forward to baptizing these two sons on Sunday.  As well as the others.  God has answered many prayers lifted up on the behalf of these Children.
