Here we go again…
Well the great news is that we got to go home from our extended stay at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama. The not so great news is that our time home was limited to about 36 hours. As we started caring at home for Lil’ Bit we noticed the first morning home that she seemed to have some drainage from her incision, so I called the neurosurgeon on call. He said that it is not uncommon to have a little weeping after they remove the drain she had in place for the first 6 days. No problem just keep an eye on it. That afternoon I changed her diaper and the wound really sorta gushed (I know TMI.) I pretty well knew at that point that this was not good, but I called neurosurgery again. Doc said we could bring her in to ER if we weren’t comfortable waiting, but that really nothing would probably be done until the attending surgeon got there at 8:30 or so. Duh! Let’s see, stay at home and sleep comfortably or go to the germ ridden ER. We figured we’d wait.
When we went to clinic and that Doc saw her he said they needed to open and clean the area and put the drain back in. Wow, that also meant another extended stay. Its not easy to stomach. Both the stay and the second barrage of medical intervention. Don’t get me wrong. I think its wonderful that they can do these life saving surgeries and such. Its just hard to watch your two week old go through it.
We are still trusting in Jesus through all of this. My wife Tara is absolutely amazing. I can’t imagine going through this with anyone else. She is ever vigilant in her care for her little girl.
On another note we have been floored by the support of our Church family. They have cared for our other six kids while we’ve been caring for Lil’ Bit. When our washing machine broke someone donated hers (thanks Nicole.) When the two toilets in our house went out last week someone came to the rescue (thanks plumbertodd.) When things were tight several of Tara’s online friends sent some gifts. We are so grateful for the way that Jesus has comforted us through his word and his people.
